I am a highly experienced executive producer, producer/director and writer of wildlife and environmental films. My work has won the highest accolades in the industry including a Peabody award from the University of Georgia, two Best of Festival and three Best Series awards at Jackson Wild, four Wildscreen pandas, a Lumiere award for Outstanding Achievement from the International 3D Society and a wide range of Emmy, BAFTA and RTS awards and nominations.
I am currently a series director and producer/director with ZED on their landmark series China’s Wild Empire II and co-writer and consultant producer with Le cinquième rêve on their feature documentary War of the Flowers. I also have other exciting projects in development, some in partnership with Wild Pacific Media in Sydney.
Over the last two years I was an executive producer on the Brian Leith Productions 4-part global environmental series The Future of Nature for PBS, BBC Studios and Arte which broadcasts on PBS from 26 March 2025. I was also a script consultant on the Silverback Films Disneynature feature Sea Lions of the Galapagos which launches on Disney+ on Earth Day 22 April 2025.
Prior to this my company Impala Pictures co-produced Canada: Surviving the Wild North with Brian Leith Productions and River Road Films for PBS and Terra Mater Factual Studios and seven films for the primetime BBC One Show.
My career spans more than thirty years and my earlier work includes directing the BBC Earth Films theatrical movie Enchanted Kingdom and giant screen Wild Africa 3D and executive producing, series producing and producing/directing the landmark series The Age of Nature, China’s Wild Empire, Kalahari: Land of Secret Alliances, The Hidden Kingdoms of China, Thailand: Earth’s Tropical Paradise, Mexico: Earth’s Festival of Life, Wild West, Life, Galapagos, British Isles: A Natural History, Wild Europe and Wild Africa for broadcasters including the BBC, PBS, National Geographic, Discovery, France Televisions, Arte, LoveNature, ORF and ZDF. I’ve also produced and written many highly acclaimed specials including Islands in the African Sky, Wings over the Serengeti, The Lions Share, Africa’s Paradise of Thorns, People of the Sea, Grizzly: Face to Face, Hokkaido: Garden of the Gods, Ospreys: The Fish Hawks and Dune.
I have been a final judge at Jackson Wild, the Grierson awards, the Shanghai International TV festival and the China Wildlife Video Competition of the Year, and have given numerous talks about the nature of my work.
I graduated from Leeds University with a first class honours in Zoology and am an ambassador for Just a Drop, a BAFTA member and a Vice President of Hospiscare in Devon.
